MOVIES: Friends of Cheever's

As another horrible year comes to an end, we at Cheever's take a little time to appreciate some of the better people in front of the camera. Starting with...

(Award for Holy Shit They Can Act)

Sean Combs (Get Him to the Greek): Combs is no stranger to the camera, having appeared in Carlito's Way: Rise to Power (2005) and A Raisin in the Sun (2008), two movies that make us question whether IMDB staff don't just routinely invent film titles. But it was his turn as the foul mouthed record exec Sergio Roma -complete with crazy eyes and impeccable comic timing- that catapulted Combs onto the comedy radar. Talking of comedy, where the hell was Anna Faris, this year?

(Award for Most Improved)

Jake Gyllenhaal (Love and Other Drugs): With a greasy little smile and dead fish Jessica Alba eyes, Jake got off to a bad start this year as The Prince in the not-really-that-anticipated Prince of Persia flick. However, he finally managed to strike a pretty good balance of slick-huckster meets appealing every man in Love and Other Drugs. Now if only there was hope for Maggie.

(Best Newcomer)

Chloe Moretz (Kick Ass): Wasting goons to the TRA-LA-LA song, Moretz stabbed her way into our hearts as the batshit insane Hit Girl in Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass. Things are looking up for Chloe, with a plethora of new roles on the horizon.

More awards when there are others more deserving.
